Musto Skiff Worlds
Stokes Bay would like to congratulate the 12 intrepid competitors who experienced a range of testing conditions, culminating in a long last day; whilst enjoying the hospitality of Carnac ,France.

The racers graced the top step a regular basis all week ; with George Hand winning Silver closely followed by Dan Henderson in fourth. The distance of half a bowsprit from 10th to 19th separated Matt Holden, Dan Kilsby, Mike Palfreman, Ben Schooling, Richard Pelley, and Andy Tarboton.

Andy Rice (22nd) was writing and written about all week, whilst creating informative radio interviews. Paul Molsworth (23),Ed Wilkinson (29) and Andy Gould (31),alongside Steve Wright who graced the front page of Y and Y in fluorescent orange.

The club Racers all agreed that the week was a success and the event would have favoured the much missed Bruce Keen. Well done to Chris Watts and Russ Clark for excellent reports on a well presented training and interpretation in the art of rules and racing.

Dart 18 Nationals

Congratulations to the Club for what has been entitled, 'Was this the best Dart 18 Nationals ever?' beautifully penned in an article for Yachts and Yachting.

The professionally run event onshore and around the race circuit makes all your efforts worthwhile with such unprompted praise.

The truncated 6 race event created Stokes Bay National Champions in David Lloyd and Tori Akhurst, the mainsheet trimmer/strategist and helm's left arm, with visitors Dan Norman and Alysian Markiman taking silver plus bronze going to Dave and Louise Roberts.

Dan and Jenny Kilsby were an outstanding sixth with Andy McQueen (another Musto Skiff sailor) in 10th place. Well done to the 14 Club racing boats contributing to a fine entry of 59 Darts with some occasionally completely re rigging offshore in 20 knots; especially our very own 'Banksy/Gerald Scarfe artist and apple varietal cognoscenti', Paul Chatfield, who was leisurely, but constantly pushing his port rudder down whilst enjoying winning a race by 20 boat lengths!!

Ian Ross
Stokes Bay Sailing Club has lost a good friend and great sailor.

Ian was a witty contributor around the tables in the Clubhouse and committee rooms, whilst always present in the Wednesday evening races plus organising and competing at the front in the Laser Traveller.

Ian's friendly presence was the first person to greet the sailors and their families from all over the country, after long journeys, at the start of the season, the Laser Qualifier each March ; in order to ease their preparations for the days racing.

The photo is of the Masters Nationals at Stokes Bay with Ian at the front, whilst most of the fleet watch the speed of his legendary yellow transom in vain.

The Club will miss the true spirit of a gentleman on the race course and our thoughts are with Barbara and his two daughters Annabelle and Jenny.

Compound Work Party – Saturday 2nd April 2016
I would like to try and get as many members as possible helping on the day.  My suggestion is to use the day as an opportunity to clear up your pitches, ready for the sailing season.  If we all bring some gardening equipment, then we can help each other out with mowers, strimmers, etc.  I will be awarding small prizes on the day for the best looking pitch and what ever other awards I can make up on the day. We also have some other projects to complete on the day - laying new land anchor cabling and cutting up the old pile of trailers, ready for a trip to the tip. To keep energy levels running high, there will be tea and cake provided to all the workers. See you there on Saturday 2nd April.  Plan to start at 9:30am and carry on through to 4:00pm ish.

Any time you can give on the day will be gratefully received.
